To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury is Aikido.

 What is Aikido?

"At its most basic level, Aikido is an effective defensive martial art, which utilises the power of the attacker rather than offer resistance. This is accomplished by avoiding and “blending” with an attack whose force is then redirected as necessary to bring about a controlled conclusion"

Hopefully our aikido club will encourage people to be free to explore principles and applications safely and without the fear of causing offence.

Our club name evokes this spirit in that it is about being open, having no ego or preconceptions and being free within one’s self to develop as a student on the path of Aikido, open to fresh ideas and approaches within the basic principles underpinning all Aikido.

In setting up our club we have tried to be open and democratic in our dealings with everyone and it is our hope that it will continue in that way. We have no time for politics or personal jealousies or any of the other things that can sour a club. We want to give people space and help them to learn as we have done and continue to strive to do. We will set high standards and encourage our students to attain them in their own time and at their own pace.

Hopefully in future times our students will come back to teach us!
